Pisang Goreng is a snack mostly found throughout Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore as well as the Philippines. Pisang Goreng is called by different names in some countries. In the Philippines it is known as “maruya”. Also, every region in Indonesia has a recipe for pisang goreng with a variety of different names. In Bali for example, pisang goreng is called godoh gedang, in West Java it is called cau goreng, in Java gedhang goreng, in Sibolga pisang rakit and in Pontianak pisang kipas Pisang goreng or banana fritters are easily one of the widely favored kuih for the afternoon cup of teh tarik (or any other hot beverages) for most Malaysians when they are feeling indulgent. Pisang goreng is a well known traditional snack that is eaten by malaysians at any time of the day. Pisang goreng is a direct transtation of the english word "Fried Bananas" however, nowadays they call it "Banana Fritters" because restaurant owners feel it sounds more professional and formal when in appearing in restaurants menu's. It is a famous snack not only in Malaysia but in Indonesia and Singapore as well. Pisang Goreng is commonly served hot during tea time. Ths Pisang Goreng is also commonly gound sold by street hawkers in a market or by the roadside. The basic way to make these banana fritters is by dipping a sliced banana into a batter consisting of flour, egg, sugar and more and then deepfried in hot oil. Some poeple proclaim that Pisang Goreng was a snack eaten by the poor. Because they could not afford to buy food, they would climb trees and and  then fry them.  

There are many tipes of bananas that can be used to make Banan Fritters. You can use "pisang raja", "pisang rastali", "pisang abu", "pisang kelang" and many more. The the ones commonly used are "Pisang rastali" as well as "pisang raja". These two are commonly used because it has the perfect texture. These bananas are softer and would melt and cook perfectly. They are also sweeter and and makes the taste even better. Its savoury taste will be the perfect banana to create pisang goreng with. 

 

Other than that, for the Pisang Goreng, there are a few differences on how it is prepared in based on different regions. In comparison, most of the people in the state of Selangor prefer to have the pisang goreng as it is. However, in Johor, they prefer to dip them in soy sauce. For Pahang, they prefer to have their pisang goreng dipped in sugar. There are many different ways to serve this snack. Traditionally people just eat it as it is but some people like to have it dipped in sugar or chili sauce. However, in this era, there are many more ways people serve these snakcs. Banana Fritters with are now eaten with Ice Cream, chocolate, honey, jam and even cheese.  

 

Pisang Goreng is very easy to find in rural areas. However, in Kuala Lumpur, it would be a bit hard to find them and would probably be expensive. A common Pisang Goreng sold by street hawkers would cost you RM 1 for a bag of 5. However in the city areas it would cost about RM 2 just for 4. It is however very easy to prepare at home as the ingredients can be easily found in convinience stores. All you need is flour, butter, eggs and more (refer to receipe page to get more information). However, you can also find Pisang Goreng in restaurants however in restaurants it commonly goes by the name Banana Fritters. Its price is rediculus though, as for just two pieces it could cost from RM 10 to RM 20.
